Health 101: Antioxidants
As we age, we are naturally exposed to free radicals from things like pollution or smoking cigarettes, which can cause cell damage and lead to common diseases. For this reason, a diet that is rich in antioxidants has many health benefits that can help protect and repair cells from the damage that is caused by free radicals. A number of the vitamins, minerals and compounds in food have antioxidant properties – vitamins A, C and E are among the most well known, as are selenium, flavonoids and lignan.
Some foods are extremely high in antioxidants. Here’s a great poster explaining the foods that you can consume on a regular basis to reverse the signs of aging and lower the risk of chronic diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and diabetes.
